Discovery Islands - Share 28, Elephant Bay, Maurelle Island

Discovery Islands - Share 28, Elephant Bay, Maurelle Island

Elephant Bay is situated on Maurelle Island in the heart of the Discovery Islands, just north of Quadra Island between Sonora and Read Islands. This is a great location for exploring and access to the Discovery Islands, Desolation Sound, Johnstone Strait and the inlets of the BC mainland coast.

DL420 is a 138 acre property which fronts the Okisollo Channel with due southern exposure. Elephant Creek flows through the property from a series of lakes – May Lake and Caroline Lake which flow into Elephant Lake – that flow into the creek. This provides a tremendous freshwater source for domestic purposes and could potentially also be utilized to generate hydro-electric power.

This offering is for a shared ownership in Elephant Bay Holdings. There are 13 shares, each of which has its own designated development acreage and access to common property. The portions have been set so that they have good privacy for each shareholder and include 7 oceanfront and 6 inland portions, on both sides of Elephant Creek. A large complement of the common property is in the bay along the shore where Elephant Creek creates a beautiful estuary and beach area that is substantial at lower tides.

This specific share offering is for an inland acreage flanking Elephant Creek. The property is fully forested in second growth. A network of old skidder roads and trails throughout the 138 acres provide access all private sites. The road and trail network also provides access to Crown Land beyond the property and to Elephant Lake. The property is surrounded by Crown Land, providing this community development with great privacy.

There are freshwater licenses in place through Elephant Bay Holdings for domestic water and hydro power usage for the property and the individual shares.

This island community was established in 1981. The shareholders are in the process of finalizing a current and comprehensive shareholders agreement.

This is a boat access only property. Options for access points are as near as 3 nautical miles to the east at the regional dock facilities located on Quadra Island. Alternatively there is access from Heriot Bay on Quadra Island, which provides a complement of amenities and services and is 11 nautical miles to the east and south along the eastern shoreline of Quadra Island. Surge Narrows on Read Island has a post office and is a drop-off point for mail and other supplies via mail float plane service or water taxi.

Exploration is as close as the Octopus Marine Park 2 miles to the west or magnificent Bute Inlet 9 miles to the north. Further afield is Toba Inlet approximately 18 miles to the northeast of the property.

Maurelle Island is part of a group of islands collectively known as the Discovery Islands, located between Campbell River, Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia on the west coast of Canada.  With snow-capped mountains and deep inlets fed by tumbling glaciers as a backdrop, the scenery to be found in this part of the world is some of the most impressive on the BC coast.

These islands and the intricate waterways that weave between them are home to fish farms, fishing and kayak lodges, homesteaders and logging camps.  They provide a multitude of adventure and recreation opportunities.  Sea kayaking among calm protected channels, with boiling tidal rapids for the more adventurous, hiking, diving, sport fishing, mountain biking and canoe touring are all popular activities catered to by local guiding outfitters and resorts.

The temperate climate, spectacular scenery, quiet rural lifestyle and endless recreation opportunities combine to make the Discovery Islands a highly desirable place to live and visit.
