Lot 2 Shoal Bay, East Thurlow Island

Lot 2 Shoal Bay, East Thurlow Island

This appealing oceanfront acreage is located in Shoal Bay on the northern tip of East Thurlow Island, in the northern Discovery Islands region of Johnstone Strait between the BC mainland and Vancouver Island.

The beautiful 12 acre property is situated just inside the northeast entrance of Shoal Bay. The property and location boast a diverse array of features, including approx. 985ft of oceanfront which incorporates a small outcrop/peninsula. This small peninsula forms a protected little bay which would provide an excellent location for deep water moorage.

The acreage is fully forested in mature second growth, with the exception of a prime building location along the oceanfront which has been cleared for development. There is a secondary building location at a higher elevation, with a footing currently in place for a cabin. This higher elevation provides panoramic ocean views. The lower portion of the property also provides great viewscapes that span from due north across Cordero Channel up Philips Arm all the way to the south overlooking Shoal Bay. The lower building site has direct western exposure as well as sunny exposure from the south.

A new well has recently been drilled on the property for domestic water.

This north Discovery Island location provides an abundance of recreational opportunities with unlimited exploring throughout the channels and inlets in the area. Some of the most popular and productive locations for salmon and bottom fish, as well as crabbing and prawning, are at your doorstep and within a few nautical miles of the property. Black bear and grizzly bear viewing is nearby in the estuaries of the local inlets. Marine wildlife encounters include porpoise, whales, seals and sealions in addition to seabirds and eagles. This area is renowned for its amazing west coast wildlife experiences.

Shoal Bay has a long history and apparently was once short-listed to be the location of the capital of BC. Currently there are only a few private property owners in Shoal Bay. The historic Shoal Bay Lodge unfortunately burnt down a number of years ago, however the federal small craft harbours dock is still in place and is a stopping point for travelling boaters.

Shoal Bay is located only 33 miles north of the city of Campbell River, which offers a full array of services and supplies. There is closer access to Vancouver Island via Rock Bay 12 miles to the south, where there is a dock, boat launch and forest service road access to Highway 19. It also benefits from quick access to Blind Channel Resort, approx. 7 nautical miles to the west. Blind Channel provides fuel, post office, general store and seasonal restaurant and dining options.

This Northern Discovery Islands region is where the Discovery Islands end and the journey to the Broughton Archipelago region to the north-west begins. The large mainland fjords of Bute and Toba Inlets are to the south-east with Loughborough and Knight Inlet to the north-west.
