Truly an interesting offering, this heritage building was originally constructed in 1917 as the Customs House and for its vintage appears to be in reasonably sound condition. Located in one of BC’s most historic coastal communities this historic building is conveniently near the two government dock facilities.

Just across from the ocean there is easy access to your playground out front. Another historic building located across the street is home to the tourist information centre which helps draw people to the front door. Alert Bay enjoys an average of approximately 9800 vacationers and visitors per year.

Over the years this building has been used for a variety of purposes and the current owners operate a three-bedroom bed and breakfast accommodation upstairs. The oldest community in the North Vancouver Island area, the Cormorant Island fishing community of Alert Bay is rich in cultural heritage and easily accessible by a scenic ferry ride from Port McNeill. Cormorant Island also has a paved air strip. Alert Bay is the gateway to Knight & Kingcome Inlets and is close to the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park, a wilderness area consisting of a maze of several small islands, inlets and adjacent foreshore at the southern extremity of Queen Charlotte Strait. The numerous remote, solitary islands in the marine park are undeveloped, largely undiscovered and provide access to some of the worlds most phenomenal waterways and coastlines, which teem with an array of indigenous marine and coastal wildlife, tremendous scenery, unlimited and unique fishing, kayaking and swimming opportunities and almost endless exploring.
