The wildlife experiences can be breathtaking, once in a lifetime events. The owners have witnessed whales swimming up onto and rolling in the sloped pebble shoreline within 20 feet of where they stood, and apparently this is something that happens in this location from time to time.

The area is renowned for its natural beauty, abundant wildlife and some of the best sportfishing for salmon, halibut and lingcod anywhere along the BC Coast. The marine and avian wildlife is diverse, including otters, sealions, seals, whales, eagles, hawks and numerous sea birds.

This would be a fabulous location for avid surfers looking to establish a base camp. Sea kayaking is popular in the Nootka region, especially along the diverse rugged coastline dotted with pinnacles, islets and kelp-filled reefs which are home to an array of smaller sea life. The Nootka Trail is a 22.4 mile multi-day hiking trail along the west coast of the island and attracts adventure-seeking hikers to the region. The area also offers amazing beach combing.

The protected harbour of Friendly Cove provides a safe haven for moorage and access. For smaller, shallow draft crafts an alternative access is a river to the west of the properties flowing out of a lagoon. In both cases one needs to walk or use an ATV to get to the properties. On the survey one can see there is a dedicated road access along the back of lots 1-4. This roadway has not been constructed however does provide legal access to the lots from the inland side.

There several access options to Nootka Sound and Nootka Island. Gold River, Tahsis and Zeballos all offer boat launches as well as water taxi services. There are float plane options from Gold River or Campbell River, or even Tofino to the south.

The freight supply boat MV Uchuck can drop off supplies in the Nootka Sound region and also has regularly scheduled trips in the region, which depart from Gold River.

This is a spectacular nature lover’s paradise that offers a little bit of everything.

Nootka Sound is located in the middle of the West Coast of Vancouver Island – a part of the coast that holds a lot of history and is known for some of the best fishing, seafood gathering, and outdoor adventure the West Coast has to offer.  Access to the region is by boat or float plane only – the closest communities you can drive to are Gold River, Tahsis or Cougar Creek on Vancouver Island.

Note: access via Friendly Cove and the Mowachaht and Muchalaht First Nations typically accommodates owners and visitors to the area however is temporarily closed due to COVID.
